Matt Carter Seven – Saturday 10 August
Matt Carter has a formidable reputation locally for exciting, dynamic and inventive piano playing. We know him best from his work with the singer Leigh Coleman and he has appeared several times at Jazz Jurassica, both at the supper club and at our annual festival.
So, we’re very pleased to be able to welcome Matt and his new band for a special one-off event on August 10th as part of their first South West tour. Performing here with a group of immensely talented young players from the Royal Academy of Music, you can expect playing equal to the very best on today’s jazz scene.
Their set will focus on the American Songbook, arranged specially by Matt for the band. They will also play some original compositions, some of it influenced by both gospel and funk. This will be high octane performance from the next generation of jazz “stars”.
Alex Ridout – Trumpet (British Jazz Awards ‘Rising Star’ 2018, BBC Young Musician Jazz Award 2016), Harry Greene – Tenor Sax, Jonny Ford – Alto Sax, Harry Maund – Trombone, Joe Lee – Bass, Luca Caruso – Drums, Matt Carter – piano.
N.B. Please note that we are not able to sell drinks at the venue (don’t panic) – so, we’re inviting you to BRING YOUR OWN. And we’ll supply glasses, ice and nibbles. Remember there are two supermarkets literally yards away if you need to re-stock during the interval!
Location – Pine Hall is to the rear of the Baptist Church complex with wonderful views over Lyme Bay – follow signs from the entrance.
All ticket proceeds go to the band so you’ll feel doubly virtuous knowing you’re helping to support a new band as it sets out on a glittering career.
