Jazz By the Beach
A swinging, groovy get down!
JAZZ BY THE BEACH, 12-5pm – Free, Marine Shelters
Get your funk on and get down for an afternoon of swing, soul, gypsy jazz, and R&B in the idyllic setting of Lyme Regis seafront. This is “dance your socks off” time – enjoy!
12pm – Big Band Swing
You can’t beat that big band sound for getting pulses racing and toes-tapping. Swinging standards and contemporary covers with all the dynamism and excitement you’d expect from a band dedicated to your listening pleasure. A rare treat. More
1pm – Louise Parker
Louise’s rich warm voice is equally at ease singing jazz, blues, latin reggae and funk. Listen up for spin-chilling renditions of Nina Simone, Billie Holliday and even Leonard Cohen. She swings, she rocks and then gets down. Sizzling! More
2pm – Something Old Something New
A funky foursome on rhythm, one sassy sax and three soulful female singers make for a mix of old and new dance floor classics. From Stevie to Aretha, Amy to Adele and Chic to JB they journey from disco to jazz and back via funk and soul. Prepare to boogie. More
3pm – La Vie en Rose
The heartfelt exuberant, toe-tapping gypsy jazz from festival favourites, La Vie en Rose, echo the cafes and bars of 1930s Paris. Think Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli. This is swinging, uplifting music from a band at the top of their game. We can’t imagine the festival without them! More
4pm – We Are Leif
Critically acclaimed, Bristol-based four piece, effortlessly blend jazz, neo-soul and proper grown up R&B wrapped around Louise Victoria’s soulful vocals. True to their home town’s musical roots we also hear strong echoes of Portishead and Massive Attack. Their debut album, Breathe, is making waves and what better place to share it than at this year’s festival. Seriously cool, don’t miss them! More
